Living in the midwest, summer is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the backyard BBQ; and what backyard BBQ would be complete without a burger? The great thing about preparing a burger is that it does not have to be boring. A burger is like a blank canvas enabling you to insert your own style and personal taste to make something truly unique, unexpected, and memorable.
(Makes 5 slider size burgers.)
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground sirloin
1 tsp. Kosher salt
1/4 tsp. fresh cracked black pepper
2 tbsp. olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp. fresh thyme
1 small red onion
Romaine lettuce
Hoffman's extra-sharp yellow cheddar cheese block
Slider buns
Heinz ketchup
Active Time: 16 minutes
Directions:
1. Preheat grill to medium heat. Clean grill thoroughly.
2. While grill is heating, in a large mixing bowl place the ground sirloin, salt, pepper, olive oil, garlic, and thyme. With clean hands thoroughly combine ingredients, but do not overwork the meat.
3. Shape burgers the size of the palm of your hand and approximately 1 1/2" to 2" thick.
4. Place burgers on grill. Leave on for 8 minutes and then flip burgers. Do NOT push down on the burgers. (This will release the juice from the burger, which you do not want.) Continue to cook on opposite side for 6 minutes.
5. At the 6 minute mark, add cheese that is sliced approximately 1/2" thick. Continue to cook for two more minutes allowing cheese to soften.
6. Serve with thinly sliced red onions, romaine lettuce, and ketchup to garnish.
**These burgers compliment the Thyme and Garlic Oven Baked Fries.**
